Newcastle Interfaith Service
The service was conducted jointly by the Anglican Dean of Newcastle, the Very Rev. Dr. James Rigney, and the Multfaith Association of Newcastle and the Hunter Region Inc. as a joyous prelude to the Parliament. Members of Christian denominations and Baha’i, Buddhist, Hare Krishna, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim and Sikh faiths were invited to read from their writings and scriptures. The service included an Aboriginal didgeridoo player. The Uniting Church’s George Stuart had written some interfaith lyrics for the occasion “Sharing Faiths” and “More than Tolerance.”
The keynote speaker was Professor Terry Lovat, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education and Arts), Newcastle University. Topic: “Interfaith Theology.”
