The Spiritual Forum
Inner Peace in a Changing World
The Spiritual Forum of Estella formed in June 2006. Its purpose is to gather people together from different beliefs and backgrounds with full respect to listen to each other, get to know one another, pray, discuss, sing, dance and meditate. It’s a gathering to live out the fraternity in our diversity.
The theme of this year's event from June 26 to 28 was “Inner Peace in a Changing World”. We tried to answer the following questions:
- How do we obtain inner peace?
- How can this peace contribute to world peace?
- How are peace and justice inter-related?
Representatives of different religious communities and organizations briefly discussed all the above questions; then assistants gathered small groups of people for further discussions in different workshops. Finally, all the groups discussed the conclusions on Sunday in the last session. Those who didn't prefer discussion had alternative workshops, time for meditation in the Temple of Silence and/or an opportunity to assist Tibetan monks in making a large mandala for peace.
Saturday and Sunday morning we prayed together under the lime trees near the river. Friday night, we had four wonderful singers delighting us with their melodies for peace and Gopala’s recitation of mystic poetry. Saturday night we listened to Sufi dhiqr put into music, and then a group of youth from the Bahá’í Dance Workshop inspired us with their beautiful dances.
This year’s gathering served to inspire us all to continue promoting spiritual values in our society, with the common aim to obtain a more peaceful world in which we can live together and respect one another.
