A Gathering of Faiths

St. Edward's University invited the university community and the Austin community to A Gathering of Faiths on Thursday, Oct. 1, an event designed to celebrate world religions. Booths and displays were set up around campus highlighting different religions along with interactive opportunities for participants to test their religious literacy.

The displays were followed by an afternoon panel discussion with current St. Edward's University students representing the various faith traditions on campus. The day ended with the annual Nostra Aetate panel discussion at 7 p.m., when representatives from the greater Austin religious community explored the values reflected in Nostra Aetate, the groundbreaking Vatican II (1965) document that expressed a commitment to dialogue and understanding among diverse faith traditions.

St. Edward's University was founded by the Congregation of Holy Cross in 1885. It is an independent, Catholic, liberal arts university that educates students from all walks of life and faith backgrounds. St. Edward's is a place where students can share knowledge of their own faith in fellowship with others, ask questions and discover true knowledge of the world. Finding common ground through unity is a necessity for future leaders who will need to make ethical and moral decisions. That is why St. Edward's encourages all students to develop a global perspective.
