Pre-Parliament Events

In 2008, the Council invited cities around the world to join in the movement building up to the Parliament of the World's Religions held in Melbourne, Australia from December 3 - 9, 2009.  In the 18 months leading up to the 2009 Parliament over 90 regional interfaith celebrations were held in more than 60 cities around the world.

Symposia, lectures, arts and cultural programs, formal teas, prayer services, peace walks, and educational programs were among the many types of events organized.  To see a world map which features the 90+ Pre-Parliament Events, please click here: interactive map

Post-Parliament Events

The Council cordially invites interfaith communities around the world to inform us of any self-organized Post-Parliament Events.

Locations which hosted Pre-Parliament Events are automatically accredited for hosting Post-Parliament Events upon completion of the Council's event notification form.

New organizers are invited to host Post-Parliament Events to showcase local interfaith initiatives and activities as well. To tell us about your community's interfaith cooperation and to have your event considered as a Post-Parliament Event, please complete the Council's event notification form.

Select events will be chosen to be featured on our website, PeaceNext.org and in our e-newsletters from time to time.

If your Post-Parliament Event has already occurred, or you would like additional information, please contact  Zabrina Santiago.

Who can organize a Post-Parliament Event?

Any group of people who organize a local organizing committee to plan, manage, and host a Post-Parliament Event are eligible to participate as long as the steering committees is made up of persons who are representative of the diversity of local religious and spiritual communities, as well as established local interreligious initiatives, guiding institutions and civic leaders.

How do groups get started?

The Council recommends the following steps for hosting a Post-Parliament event:

  1. A local organizing committee is assembled and provides the strategy for planning and executing the event.
  2. An organizing committee representative fills out the Post-Parliament Event Notification form.
    • The form serves as the basis for an initial consultation interview with the Partner Cities Director of the Council to provide accreditation for the Post-Parliament event.  Note, hosts of accredited Pre-Parliament Events are automatically considered for fast-track accreditation.
