Convocation of Hindu Spiritual Leaders
December 8th, 2009 - 8am - 1pm
A special feature of the Melbourne Parliament will be an assembly of a number of the most outstanding Hindu spiritual leaders of India. The convocation of saints will begin with Vedic chanting, prayers, meditation and music. These opening observances will be followed by a number of eminent speakers on universal themes, such as spiritual values and peace, as well as current issues such as humanitarian work, education, and the environment. All are welcome at this very inspiring and enlightening gathering!
The convocation will include the following spiritual leaders:
H. H. Swami AVDHESHANAND Giri Ji Maharaj
Head of the Juna Peeth, the largest group of spiritual leaders in India, Trustee of the Acharya Sabha, the highest council of authorities on Hindu Dharma, founder of several humanitarian organizations, author, speaker and recipient of the 2008 “Hindu of the Year” award.
H. H. Swami AMARANANDA
Senior monk of the Ramakrishna Order and President of the Centre Védantique in Geneva; formerly residential school headmaster and expert on disaster management; long-time participant in multireligious programs including the World Faiths Development Dialogue, meetings of the Community of Sant’ Egidio, the Inter-religious Platform in Geneva and the World Council of Churches.
H. H. Satguru BODHINATHA VEYLANSWAMI
Designated successor to Sivaya Subramuniyaswami of blessed memory who was a Co-President of the 1993 Centenary Parliament of the World’s Religions; Guru Mahasiddhanam and 163rd preceptor of the 2,200-year-old Kailasa Parampara of the Nadinatha Sampradaya in the Saivite Hindu tradition; publisher of the international quarterly journal Hinduism Today based at Kauai’s Hindu Monastery in Hawaii.
Yogini Sri CHANDRA KALI PRASADA Mataji
Spiritual leader of the Sri Kali Gardens Ashram and successor of Sri Babuji Maharaj of blessed memory who founded the Ashram; head of numerous humanitarian and development programs and exponent of interreligious harmony.
HH Sri CHINNA Jeeyar Swamiji
Educated in the ancient Vedic tradition, Sri Jeeyar Swamiji mastered the scriptures and spiritual teachings of his faith in depth, learning directly from the Gurus from a young age. Dedicated to the principle of service to all beings as service to God, the mission of Sri Jeeyar Swamiji is involved in numerous charitable enterprises in a wide variety of fields including health services, education, disaster relief and veterinary medicine among others. He has been active in the cause of world peace and has given special attention to the youth of the world.
H. H. Pujya Swami CHIDANAND Saraswati
President and Spiritual Head of Paramarth Niketan, one of the largest spiritual institutions in India; Founder and Chairman of the India Heritage Research Foundation (IHF) sponsoring a wide range of humanitarian and educational programs; long-time participant in international interfaith conferences and recipient of the “Hindu of the Year” award in 1991.
Administrative Head and spiritual leader of the Brahma Kumaris World Spiritual University in more than 100 countries; Patron of the World Congress of Faiths; member of the Global Peace Initiative of Women; exponent of a modern form of the ancient practice of Raja Yoga.
Sri KARUNAMAYI VIJAYESWARI Devi
Founder of a number of free humanitarian programs including schools and hospitals serving the poor; known for her motherly compassion, a revered teacher of universal values of love and service to others.
Sri Swami MAYATITANANDA Saraswati (Mother Maya)
Founder of the Wise Earth School of Ayurveda, healer, educator and author; an exponent of Ahimsa or nonviolence and its ecological importance; one of the few women to be ordained as a renunciant or sannyasini by her Guru, H. H. Swami Dayananda Saraswati.
Sri Paramahamsa PRAJNANANANDA Giri
Current spiritual leader of the Kriya Yoga international organizations, which were founded by his master, Paramahamsa Hariharananda. Enriched by his experience, wisdom, and love for humanity, Prajnanananda founded Prajnana Mission, which provides service including free medical assistance units and centers, residential schools for the poor, and many other charitable and educational activities. Author of many books, Paramahamsa Prajnanananda bridges Eastern and Western cultures with a harmonious, fresh, and non-sectarian approach.
H. H. Sri Sri RAVI SHANKAR
Founder of the Art of Living, an educational and humanitarian Non-Governmental Organization in special consultative status with the Economic and Social Council of the United Nations, present in over 140 countries; founder of the International Association for Human Values (IAHV); recipient of many honors and awards and frequent participant in international conferences.
H. H. Swami SANDEEP CHAITANYA
Founder of The School of the Bhagavad Gita in 2006 and exponent of the Bhagavad Gita; founder of the Salagramam Ashram at the grassroots level and initiating new projects; disciple of Swami Chinmayananda of blessed memory.
Dada J. P. VASWANI
Spiritual head of the Sadhu Vaswani Mission which is named after his Guru and uncle, Sadhu Vaswani of blessed memory, a non-sectarian institution sponsoring numerous social and education programs; author and well-known speaker; exponent of the unity of religions.
