Carter Center Welcomes Messages of Peace & Comfort for President Jimmy Carter

On Saturday, February 18th the Carter Center announced that Jimmy Carter, the 39th President of the United States and Founder of the Carter Center, had entered hospice care.

A self-identified Christian layman, President Carter has dedicated his life to resolving conflict, promoting democracy, protecting human rights, and preventing disease and other afflictions. He delivered a rousing keynote via video address to the 2009 Parliament of the World’s Religions in Melbourne, Australia noting that he was, “…pleased to address the Parliament of World Religions about the vital role of religion in providing a foundation for – or correcting – the global scourge of discrimination and violence against women.” His call to action deeply inspired the Women’s Dignity focus at the Parliament of the World’s Religions and led to the creation of the Women’s Task Force, the Inaugural Women’s Assembly, and the Declaration for the Dignity and Human Rights of Women (2015).

The Parliament of the World’s Religions joins the global interfaith movement and people of faith, spirituality, and goodwill around the world in prayer for President Carter, his family, and his community.
