Evangelical-Jewish Dialogue

Session Description:

Evangelical-Jewish Dialogue in the United States is a rather recent development. Two major Evangelical-Jewish theological scholarly conferences have taken place – one in the late 1970s and one in the early 1980s. While productive, these conferences had little, if any, effect on wider Evangelical-Jewish relations. The development of this relationship confronts significant degrees of difficulties. First and foremost is the fact that in the main where Jews live, Evangelicals do not live, and vice-versa. Secondly, unlike the hierarchical nature of the Roman Catholic Church and mainline Protestant denominations, Evangelicalism in the United States is characterized by a high degree of decentralization. Beginning some fifteen years ago, with the launch of the Annual Evangelical-Jewish Leadership Conference, this relationship has experienced significant development. This presentation will describe the current state of the relationship.
