Fantasia: World Peace and Freedom For All Ceremony

Session Description:

Fantasia showcases the wisdom and compassion of Dr. Albert Schweitzer, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1952 for his “Reverence for Life ” philosophy, which included both human and non-human animals. The ceremony embodies Dr. Schweitzer’s famous quote, “Until we extend our circle of compassion to all living things, humanity will not find peace.” The choreography represents the inclusion of animals into human circles of compassion. The ceremony begins with a mask-making activity and progresses with songs, chants, and readings from various faith traditions as the outer circle of animals weaves through and becomes incorporated into the concentric circles of human family, friends, neighbors, and nations. The dance and original musical score manifests Schweitzer’s vision into reality as participants welcome those wearing artisan animal masks into the inner circle and everyone recites a loving kindness prayer for all beings.
