Festivals of the Dead: Día de Muertos and Samhain

Session Description:

In this interfaith and multicultural session, two Pagan Priestesses and a Chaplain who has served as a Pagan Priest and Christian Minister share ancient and contemporary traditions, lore, symbols, rituals, altars, and customs for honoring the Dead rooted in Celtic European Samhain and Indigenous Mexican Día de Muertos festivals of late October and early November. They discuss similarities and differences between these festivals as well as how parts of these festivals have contributed to the development of Christian All Saints and All Souls observances and secular Halloween celebrations around the world. The session includes a ceremonial honoring of Ancestors and Beloved Dead.
