Franciscan Spirituality and Other Spiritualities as Basis for Youth Climate Action

Session Description:

Francis of Assisi perspective of familial relationship with all creation is a key concept for living in circularity with the Earth. Providing this foundational spirituality for young adults who aspire to advocate for integral ecology for the future existence of the planet will give them hope and motivation for their climate justice activism. Leaders Kayla Jacobs, a youthful leader who initiated the first Catholic diocesan office for Laudato Si and gives retreats for youth on climate justice, and Elizabeth Fuhr OSF, who for 20 years leads people of all ages to contemplate and care for nature through Francis of Assisi’s Canticle of Creation. They share about the work they are doing to get more young people involved in care for creation, Franciscan spirituality, and intergenerational ministry. Participants are invited to share their foundational spiritual principles for climate action and programs they wish to promote.
