Muslim Women Activism: Stories from Australia

Session Description:

A Scanlan Foundation report of 2017 showed that Muslims were the most discriminated community in Australia with over 37% of Muslims stating that they had faced discrimination. Muslim Australian women rose to the occasion to bridge the gap between the wider Australian community and the Muslim community in Australia with their very own and very diverse brand—from creating safe spaces for open discussion and questions to celebrations of Muslim traditions in public gathering spaces. Showcasing the depth of contribution of Muslims to Australian communities, these women have built and developed communities and connections with their faith as a base. This discussion, presented by Salamfest Australia, brings three amazing women who are carving a path to a more cohesive, inclusive Australia, one that celebrates differences and uses them to grow and expand as a nation.
