CANCELLED: The Dalai Lama’s Approach to Secular Ethics as a Means to Achieve a Global Ethic

Session Description:

The Parliament’s second principle of the Global Ethic is every human being must be treated humanely. To be most effective, this principle must be embodied rather than remain an external imperative. Secular ethics, as articulated by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, provides a way for people to embody this principle through common sense, common experience, and science. Secular ethics is based on the twin pillars of Common Humanity and Interdependence. A deep appreciation of these pillars leads one to naturally embody the Parliament’s second principle that every human being must be treated humanely. In this interactive session, we use skills and practices from Compassionate Integrity Training from Life University, based on secular ethics, to help participants experience the reality of common humanity and interdependence, engendering a natural desire to treat every human being humanely. This session includes group discussion, critical insight activities, and contemplative practice.
