‘The Muslim 500’ Names Parliament Chair Mujahid to World’s Most Influential Muslims

February 12, 2014

Chair of the Council for a Parliament of the World’s Religions Board of Trustees Imam Abdul Malik Mujahid has been named one of “The Muslim 500: The World’s Most Influential Muslims” in its just-released 2013/2014 roster. This is the third year the publication recognizes Imam Mujahid’s achievements and influence within and for the Muslim world.
The Muslim 500 profiles Imam Mujahid’s source of influence in social issues stating,
“As President of the multimedia company Sound Vision he has created a critical educational resource for Muslims. His development of the Radio Islam nightly talk show in Chicago is not only a source of support for Muslims, but an important educational link to non-Muslims in the greater Chicago area. During his tenure as Chair of the Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago and now in his role as Chair of the Parliament of the World’s Religions, Mujahid speaks with eloquence not only about the destructiveness of Islamophobia but also of the need for all people to come together in a spirit of justice and peace.”
The Royal Islamic Strategies Center based in Jordan selects Muslims for the publication by measures of influence, and chooses leaders irrespective of political or religious positions. Those populating the Top 50 comprise dignitaries such as Grand Muftis and Kings throughout Islamic and Muslim-majority nations.
The Muslim 500 breaks down categories sub-divided regionally. Imam Mujahid shares acknowledgement in the category of social issues with prominent Muslim women leaders he respects such as Shirin Ebadi, the Iranian Nobel Laureate who spoke to the Barcelona Parliament in 2004.  An honorable mention to the unparalleled Malala Yousafzai is offered as well.
Notables in the areas of spiritual leadership, philanthropy, and media, among others categories round out the remaining 450.
The Parliament congratulates Chair Imam Abdul Malik Mujahid for this recognition for his most passionate work to establish peace, justice, and sustainability within his global Muslim family, and throughout the interfaith community around the world.
