Addressing Core Causes of Violence: Examining Science, Practice, and Interfaith Responses

Session Description:

This session brings together an interdisciplinary panel of researchers, anti-violence practitioners, and faith leaders who are working together to address the root causes of violence in Chicago’s South Side community. Violence is one form of response for those who have experienced systemic injustice, generational trauma, and a continuous deprivation of equal access to healthcare, nutrition, education, employment, and other human rights. This session explores these root causes to create a roadmap for faith communities interested in learning how to proactively approach anti-violence work and to highlight the value of an interfaith approach to addressing violence. The session includes a Q&A, as well as an opportunity for audience members to reflect on how they can bring what they’ve learned back to their personal contexts.
