Gender Fluidity in Gurbaani: An Exploration of the Female Voice in Sikh Scripture

Room 201D
Ever wanted to walk a mile in the shoes of a Sikh woman? Women's voices and stories are present in the Sikh scriptures in a variety of ways, coming through as mothers, friends, lovers, and the earth itself. Sikhism requires that people of all genders include recitation from the perspective of a woman as a part of their regular Sikh practice. This session will look at different Sabads and encourage people of all genders to empathize with the various female voices. As most of the Sikh scripture is set to musical measures, this interactive session will have live Sikh religious music.
