Hijabination: The Invisibility of Female-Clergy and Religious Authority

Room 605
This panel will focus on the imagination of Muslim women as being “wrapped up” in oppression and as victims who have to be “saved” by the Western world. The presenters will discuss, through case studies of the invisibility of female scholars, particularly female-clergy and other female religious authoritative figures how women, especially Black and Brown voices are chosen to be suppressed and how their agencies are taken away and not represented as their own.
