IPhones, Social Media, and Religion – Will the Next Generation Believe?

Room 602B
Description:
In July 2017, news of Siddika Jessa’s support for her son’s same-sex marriage spread at warp speed over social media and she was forced to resign from her long-held leadership position of a large Muslim organization. Her experience highlights the struggle of traditional religions to deal with modern social issues. Siddika will tell her powerful story of breaking leadership barriers and standing up for her values and beliefs as a Muslim woman. Attendees will then interactively consider the oft opposing forces of cultural fluidity and religious orthodoxy, and identify key principles to keep faith alive in a changing world.
