Sustainable Peacebuilding: For Current and Future Generations

Room 701B
This session will cover three topics related to building sustainable cultures of peace in communities globally—for current and future generations. A part of the discussion will be holistic, evolving visions of peace, justice, sustainable development and methods of nonviolent action from Peace Studies. There will also be a focus on two key nonviolent peace practitioners — Mahatma Gandhi and Martin Luther King. Finally, a 12-sector Peace Wheel will be utilized to organize events and edit a book of articles by interfaith, social, and peace activists as well as academics from Los Angeles/Southern California who are working in each area of peace—providing a model for how any community could map peacebuilding efforts in their community.
