Technology as Religion, Religion as Technology: How to Flourish in the Post-human Age

Session Description:

The role and influence of certain technologies seem ever to be transforming our ways of life, to the extent that, for a growing number, information and communication technologies now take the place vacated by traditional religions: supplying their rituals, mediating their communities, and shaping their epistemes. Post humanists argue that these developments merely usher in the next stage of human evolution, promising utopian teloi while downplaying perils. In this session, presenters interrogate the meanings of both religion and technology in this discourse, draw on Indian and European philosophical traditions, and propose a more robust model of post humanist religion.
