Transcendent Tunes: Dialogue With the Divine
Session Description:
Music is a shared language that allows access to a shared ancestry of emotions, intent, and values that inform neuro-psycho-biology of many religious experiences across the globe. A Vedic Shloka meets a Sufi chant in a South Indian Raaga, a Buddhist Sutra synergizes with an African American gospel song. Despite the many layers of separation across time, space, and geography—there are songs and tunes that jive in sacred unison of spirit. In this concert, sacred music from Hindu, Jewish, Baháʼí, Jain, Sikh, and Zoroastrian religions is paired to demonstrate a certain transcendence in their intent and purpose.
