Race Amity

Session Description:

Race Unity Day is typically observed worldwide by Bahá’ís and others with meetings and discussions. In May 1921, the Bahá’í Race Amity movement was launched in the nation’s capital, Washington D.C., as “a practical effort to influence public discourse on race in the United States.” This movement was distinct in that it focused primarily on eradicating the root causes of racial injustice. Bahá’ís see racism as a major barrier to peace and teach that there must be universal recognition of the oneness of all humans to achieve peace. The goal is to launch a new series of endeavors calling all people of goodwill to join together in building a new society. Our theme for today focuses on “social transformation.” The “Race Amity” panel explores the power of education in replacing race angst with race amity as an engine for social transformation; how the distance traveled thus far informs our path forward.
