Abhayjeet Singh Sachal is a 16-year-old Canadian humanitarian, environmentalist, and activist who believes that engagement in dialogue and conversation can serve to spark change around the world. Abhayjeet traveled to the Arctic in 2016 to witness the human impacts of climate change on Indigenous communities and became committed to raising awareness about the realities of climate change.
Upon returning from this Arctic expedition, inspired to create change, he realized that it was his personal connection with youth living in the Arctic that motivated him to make a difference. Therefore, alongside his brother Sukhmeet Singh Sachal, he co-founded Break The Divide Foundation, a non-profit organization that connects youth around the world with one another. Through video calls, youth are able to learn about lifestyles in different communities and understand the commonalities that they share. With these connections, youth lead action projects to create change in their communities. Based on principles of environmentalism, sustainability, and reconciliation, Break The Divide focuses on encouraging youth to promote peace.
Abhayjeet has been a key presenter at numerous international conferences in his efforts to share environmental knowledge and personal experiences. The keynote speaker at numerous local events in Canada, he has also presented at some of North America’s largest conferences in Florida, Washington, DC, and Spokane. Abhayjeet is also an avid ice hockey player and pianist. He was named Starfish Canada’s Top 25 Under 25 Environmentalists for 2017.
